Hydraulic Radial Piston Motor

The Parker Radial Piston Motor, part of the Calzoni MR series of radial piston hydraulic motors, leverages innovative Fluid Column Technology to deliver superior performance compared to competitive designs. These motors are engineered for high mechanical efficiency and exceptional volumetric efficiency, making them ideal for applications requiring precise torque and speed control. Available in 11 frame sizes with 41 standard displacements, the MR series provides a solution for diverse hydraulic system needs.

How does a radial piston hydraulic motor work?

The Motor Function is achieved through five pistons which are carried radially in a cylinder block mounted on the driveshaft which incorporates an offset from the centre of rotation. Hydraulic fluid under pressure from a pump is fed to each piston through fluid paths/channels in the crankshaft. Pressurising the pistons with direct hydraulic pressure from the fluid, when combined with offset driveshaft, produces a turning movement. This turning motion creates mechanical power which in turn drives the application. This specialised design enables the MR series radial piston motors to excel in:
  • High torque output for demanding applications.
  • Smooth and precise motion control, even at low speeds or during transitions.
  • Reversible operation, functioning effectively as both motor and pump.

  • Due to their special design, the MR motors deliver their maximum performance when the application requires high torque radial piston motors.
  • The MR motors combine precise and smooth movements, both at low speed and during acceleration and deceleration transitions for high speed radial piston hydraulic motors.
  • The high starting torque (up to 96%) allows the user to select a smaller displacement of the motor, optimising the size of all the other system’s components.
  • Motors can be customised by selecting different types of shafts, speed sensors, seals, and connection flanges.
  • Optional accessories include gearboxes and parking brakes.
  • MR motors can be equipped with optional built-on manifold blocks (cross relief, anti-cavitation, flushing and drain valves) to suit the customer needs.
  • Other typical characteristics of MR motors are: – high power-to-weight ratio – high volumetric and mechanical efficiency – high resistance to thermal shock – very low operating noise levels – suitable for fire-resistant and biologically degradable fluids – extremely well suited for control engineering applications – reversible operation (motor and pump)
